Methodology

  • First-party collection. Postings are collected daily, directly from each company's own careers site or applicant-tracking system — never from third-party job boards or aggregators.
  • Live counts, not estimates. Every figure reflects positions that are open right now. Nothing is surveyed, sampled, or modeled from filings.
  • Normalized taxonomy. Raw job titles are classified into 92 standardized roles across 13 families; skills are extracted from full job descriptions against a 202-skill dictionary.
  • Compensation from the source. Salary figures come only from pay ranges companies publish in the posting itself (current market median: $180,550).
  • Historical depth. Daily market time series since March 2026, plus monthly snapshots per company and per skill.

About the founder

HireJack is built by Bill Barthel (LinkedIn), an Iowa-based software engineer whose three-decade career spans aerospace at Rockwell Collins, healthcare IT, enterprise consulting, manufacturing systems, and mobile software. HireJack is a product of his one-engineer studio, Twin Valley Lakes Software Solutions — he designed and personally runs the entire pipeline, from daily ATS collection across 368 companies to the nightly site rebuild.
