What you'll do
Internship Program Details
- You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.
Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.
To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.
The day-to-day
- Familiarize yourself with network monitoring tools/NMS, service alarms, and dashboards under supervision to ensure smooth and efficient network operation monitoring
- Assist NOC Controllers in:
- Incident/change management handling process
- Call out management
- Ticker tape/service notification
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for:
- Incident handling / Change request mechanism
- Escalation processes
- Network Operational reporting and closure
- Assist NOC Controller to perform basic health checks and monitoring validation
- Document incidents, actions taken, and lessons learned
- Participate in shift handover updates and daily operational briefings
What you'll need
- Education: Recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Telecommunications, IT, Electronics or a related field
- Citizenship: This position requires a Valid Work Permit or Visa for the country you would be located and working from
- Basic understanding of:
- Network monitoring concepts and system operations
- Troubleshooting methodologies
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (written & verbal)
- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Willingness to learn in a structured NOC environment
- Discipline in following processes and procedures
- Strong sense of accountability and ownership
What will help you on the job
- Familiarity with:
- ITIL best practices
- Operating systems (Linux, Unix, Windows, Script, etc)
- Scripting skills
- Exposure to:
- Network monitoring tools
- Telecom or satellite operations or language/web programming
- Certification or academic exposure:
- English certification
- Ability to:
- Work under pressure during incidents
- Prioritize tasks in a live operational environment
- Adapt to shift-based or structured working routines
