The Opportunity

We are seeking a Software Project Manager to join our delivery team in Cheltenham. This hands‑on role sits at the heart of our mission‑focused work, supporting high‑impact software, cyber and IT projects for customers operating in complex, fast‑moving environments.
In this role, you will bring structure, clarity and leadership to technical delivery, ensuring outstanding performance across both customer outcomes and commercial objectives. You will work closely with technical subject matter experts, senior stakeholders and delivery teams to improve ways of working, shape new opportunities and ensure successful delivery across diverse and meaningful projects.
Role Responsibilities
• Lead the financial management of projects, including risk and cost mitigation.
• Ensure delivery to time, budget and quality across T&M and fixed‑price contracts.
• Drive project profitability and identify opportunities for commercial growth.
• Maintain delivery momentum by focusing teams on what matters most.
• Build, motivate and develop a high‑performing delivery team.
• Coach and mentor colleagues in agile, lean and modern delivery practices.
• Support continuous improvement and lessons‑learned activity across projects.
• Support stakeholder engagement to identify new opportunities and areas for capability development.
• Work with SMEs to understand customer problems and advise on best‑fit solutions.
• Lead project close‑down activities, including reviews and process improvement.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
• Experience in delivery or project management, with evidence of collaborative working.
• Recent experience supporting IT, software or cyber projects within Government, Defence or similar environments.
• Knowledge of PRINCE2, Agile Project Management, MSP or similar methodologies.
• Ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for varied audiences.
• Experience contributing to strategy, process definition and account‑level decisions.
• Ability to conduct performance reviews, drive lessons learned and generate reusable artefacts.
Preferred
• Background in Defence or Cyber delivery environments.
• Experience identifying and progressing R&D or organic growth opportunities.
