About the Role 

At Booking.com, we are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager - Site Reliability to join our Data & Machine Learning team within Central Technology.

We have a massive, diverse portfolio of platform products spanning:

• OLTP & Databases: Self-managed platforms (MySQL, Cassandra) and cloud-managed services (Aurora, DynamoDB, CockroachDB, PostgreSQL, In-memory stores, Search).

• Data Streaming: Kafka, Flink, Confluent Cloud

• Analytics: Our robust in-house Date Lake powering advanced ML use cases.

Our core focus is providing foundational building blocks and automated "golden paths" with central oversight. By managing platform reliability at an incredible scale, we enable application developers across Booking.com to focus on what matters most: solving problems for our travelers and partners.

Leadership & Responsibilities

• Cross-Craft Line Management: You will serve as the local line manager for a diverse, cross-functional team, including Engineering Managers (EMs), Product Managers (PMs), Architects and Operations/Analysts. 

• Bangalore DML Site Leadership: Beyond your immediate teams, you will act as the Site Leader for the entire Data & Machine Learning (DML) group in Bangalore. You will be the champion for the hub's overall health, driving engagement, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring the Bangalore DML teams feel connected, motivated, and aligned with our global vision.

This also includes:

• Lead, inspire and grow a group of agile engineering teams

• Coaching and developing a multi crafted team of engineering managers, product managers and analysts, focussing on top talent and talent that needs senior mentoring for growth 

• Attracting, hiring, developing and retaining engineering talent from around the world

• Organizing the teams’ structure to achieve strategic business priorities

• Creating strong partnerships to drive multi-functional projects forward

• Acting as an intermediary for the needs of your engineering team

• Managing the performance of the teams and individuals reporting to you

What you'll bring: 

• Hands-on experience in software and/or systems engineering (15+ years working in technology)

• Experience in managing multiple teams

• Demonstrable experience in shaping and leading software engineering functions

• Experience leading directly a team as well as through others

• Expertise with and passion for working on highly reliable, highly performing and highly compliant e-commerce platforms and services

• Independent, pragmatic, and proactive work attitude

• Experience working on large scale software products is a plus

• Experience with site reliability engineering and developing on cloud or hybrid platforms is considered a plus
