Algorithms Engineer – Imaging Systems

Analog Devices (NASDAQ: ADI) designs and manufactures semiconductor products and solutions that enable our customers to interpret the world around us by intelligently bridging the physical and digital worlds. Our technologies sense, measure, and connect, enabling innovation across healthcare, industrial, and automotive markets.

The Digital Healthcare business group is seeking an Algorithms Engineer to support the development of next-generation sensing and imaging technologies for healthcare applications. These systems integrate imaging, optical sensors, measurement electronics, and software to deliver robust and reliable information from complex biological measurements.

Signal processing, data analytics, machine learning, AI-enabled algorithms, and physics-informed algorithms are core differentiators of these systems.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will take an active, hands-on role in the development of core algorithms for a key optical biosensing and imaging program. Working closely with the algorithm team, optical system engineers, application teams, and software teams, they will develop, prototype, and refine algorithms using real experimental imaging and sensor data.

This role is well suited to an engineer who enjoys focused, in-depth algorithm development, working on complex sensing and imaging problems where solutions are not always known upfront.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own specific algorithm components from concept through prototyping, evaluation, and refinement
  • Develop Python-based algorithms and data analysis tools for processing complex experimental sensor and imaging data
  • Apply signal processing, statistical methods, and model-based approaches to extract robust information from noisy real-world measurements
  • Explore and apply machine learning and AI techniques that enable performance, robustness, and data interpretation
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to understand system behavior, measurement challenges, and data characteristics
  • Provide data-driven insights to support system optimization, test design, and technical decision making
  • Develop scalable analysis pipelines and prototypes for offline, near-real-time, or production-oriented workflows
  • Support algorithm verification, performance characterization, documentation, setting the roadmap for integration into software products and systems

Required Qualifications

  • BEng, MSc, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated industry experience (typically 5+ years) developing algorithms for sensing, imaging, or data-driven systems
  • Experience developing algorithms for sensing, imaging, measurement, or other data-driven systems
  • Strong Python skills for algorithm development and data analysis, for example NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, Matplotlib, or scikit-learn
  • Strong foundation in signal processing, data analysis, and model-based methods for interpreting complex experimental data
  • Working knowledge of machine learning techniques for sensor, imaging, or time-series data
  • Ability to combine physical insight, signal processing, and data-driven approaches in algorithm development
  • Strong interest and ability to build domain expertise in advanced sensing, imaging, or fluorescence techniques
  • Strong software development skills, good communication and collaboration skills, and practical experience working with experimental or laboratory data

Desirable / Advantageous Experience

  • Experience applying data analytics, machine learning, or AI techniques to medical, biological, imaging, or sensor datasets
  • Experience with advanced sensing or imaging systems
  • Experience combining signal processing, model-based estimation, and machine learning in real-world systems
  • Familiarity with image processing or algorithm deployment workflows
  • Exposure to regulated or safety-critical industries and experience documenting technical work in a structured manner

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for an engineer who enjoys working on open-ended problems where the solution is not known upfront, and is comfortable iterating based on experimental data.

The ideal candidate demonstrates patience and persistence when dealing with ambiguity and noisy real-world data, while maintaining a disciplined and focused approach to algorithm development.

They can take ownership of algorithm development tasks, work on them with sustained focus, and iterate until performance and robustness targets are met.

They should be comfortable learning the underlying principles of complex measurement systems and translating that understanding into practical algorithms.
