Senior Data Engineer managing Amazon's fleet cost insights pipeline end-to-end. Job description
from Amazon careersAt Amazon, we're working to be the most customer-centric company on earth. One customer experience that we're constantly raising the bar on is how we fulfil and deliver orders — quickly, accurately, anywhere in the world. To meet this goal, Amazon is continually innovating and pioneering new products and services in the last mile delivery space. Come join the team and help us work hard, have fun, and make history!
The Fleet Process Excellence (FPE) team sits within EU Fleet Operations, driving measurable cost optimisation across our branded delivery fleet. We operate across multiple European countries, partnering with internal stakeholders across Last Mile as well as external partners including Delivery Service Providers (DSPs), Fleet Management Companies (FMCs), and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
We are looking for a Fleet Process Excellence Insights Manager to take Ownership of our fleet cost insights pipeline end-to-end. This is not a support role — you will proactively identify cost optimisation opportunities, build the data foundations to quantify them, and translate complex analysis into clear, actionable recommendations that drive decisions at Director and Regional level.
You will be the technical backbone of the FPE team: our go-to person for coding, automation, data solutions, and BI. You'll Dive Deep into large, novel datasets spanning fleet cost-per-package (CPP), vehicle off-road rates (VORR), and operational cost drivers to surface step-change savings opportunities — not wait to be asked.
To be successful in this role, you'll need to operate with high independence, be a strong communicator who can bridge technical and non-technical audiences and thrive in ambiguity. You'll Deliver Results end-to-end with minimal direction.
Key job responsibilities
• Own the fleet cost insights pipeline — design, build, and maintain automated data pipelines and reporting that provide a single source of truth for fleet cost performance (CPP, VORR, cost-by-station, cost-by-DSP).
• Proactively surface cost optimisation opportunities — use statistical analysis to identify trends, gaps, and savings levers; quantify impact and present actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
• Develop and maintain performance dashboards — build executive-ready visualisations with key cost metrics for Directors and senior leadership; synthesise large quantities of data into clear narratives.
• Drive automation and tooling — build scalable, automated solutions (ETL pipelines, API integrations, serverless data processing) that reduce manual effort and improve data quality across FPE.
• Translate data for non-technical stakeholders — partner with Regional Fleet Managers, Finance, and Operations leaders to turn complex analysis into decisions and actions. You communicate the "so what", not just the numbers.
• Lead cross-functional data projects — collaborate across teams and regions on reporting improvement, data standardisation, and process automation initiatives.
• Build and own data models — design warehouse structures and data models that support scalable, repeatable analysis of fleet cost drivers.
• Partner with finance — work with Finance teams to align cost data, validate savings estimates, and support business case development.
- Experience with reporting and Data Visualization tools such as Quick Sight / Tableau / Power BI or other BI packages
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience communicating results to senior leadership, or experience in solving complex business challenges by delivering accurate and timely financial models, analysis, and recommendations that have a proven impact on business (e.g., financial savings, operational improvements, or customer benefits)
- Bachelor's degree or above in computer science, engineering, mathematics, operations, logistics, supply chain, or related field — or equivalent experience including building and maintaining data flows and pipelines
- Experience in financial modeling, P&L management or analysis, or experience in quantitative role (engineering, process re-engineering, quality assurance)
- Experience in one or more of the following: Big Data, DevOps, Security, Systems Administration, software development, cloud technology
- Bachelor's degree or above in operations research, applied mathematics, theoretical computer science, or equivalent, or a Associate's degree or above and experience applying machine learning algorithms to find business-critical patterns in operational data
- Experience building measures and metrics, and developing reporting solutions
- Experience working in a matrixed environment, influencing strategy, and achieving goals by working across the organization
