Sr. Solutions Architect guiding enterprise customers through VMware-to-AWS migrations. Requires deep enterprise infrastructure expertise and ability to communicate with technical and executive stakeholders.
Job description
from Amazon careersAmazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an experienced Sr. Solutions Architect focused on VMWare migration to join our team in Taiwan. In this role, you will work directly with enterprise customers to help them plan and execute the migration of complex on-premises workloads to AWS, with a focus on VMware environments and enterprise workload migration.
As a VMWare migration SA, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor for customers undergoing cloud transformation. You will assess existing infrastructure, design target architectures on AWS, and guide customers through large-scale migration projects — from initial discovery through cutover and optimization. Your deep understanding of on-premises data center environments will be critical in helping customers realize the full value of the cloud.
This role requires a strong technical background in enterprise infrastructure, combined with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and executive stakeholders.
Key job responsibilities
• Migration Strategy & Planning: Define end-to-end migration strategies for enterprise customers, including workload discovery, application dependency mapping, migration wave planning, and cutover execution.
• Architecture Design: Design scalable, resilient, and cost-optimized AWS target architectures for migrated workloads, including compute, networking, storage, and database tiers.
• On-Premises Assessment: Conduct deep technical assessments of customer on-premises environments, including VMware vSphere/vCenter clusters, SAP application servers (NetWeaver, S/4HANA, BW), and Oracle Database deployments.
• VMware Migration: Guide customers through VMware-to-AWS migration paths, leveraging tools such as AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), AWS Transform, and related VMWare special services.
• SAP and Oracle Database Migration: Support customers migrating enterprise workloads, like SAP and Oracle databases, to AWS (Amazon RDS, EC2-hosted Oracle, or migration to Amazon Aurora/PostgreSQL), including schema conversion and data replication strategies using AWS DMS and SCT.
• Customer Engagement: Engage with C-level executives and IT leadership to articulate migration value propositions, build business cases, and drive cloud adoption decisions.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with account teams, Professional Services, partners, and other specialist SAs to deliver comprehensive migration solutions.
• Enablement & Thought Leadership: Mentor other Solutions Architects on migration best practices, contribute to internal knowledge bases, and represent AWS at customer events and industry conferences.
- 8+ years of infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience managing or architecting on-premises data center environments, including virtualization, networking, storage, and server infrastructure.
- 3+ years of experience with VMware technologies (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, NSX) in production enterprise environments.
- AWS experience: Hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, EBS, Direct Connect, AWS Transform, Application Migration Service (MGN), Database Migration Service (DMS), and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
- Container & modernization experience: Practical experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, or Amazon EKS, including containerizing legacy applications or operating containerized workloads in production.
- SAP expertise: Experience running SAP workloads on AWS (EC2, EFS/FSx, backups with Backint), or performing SAP OS/DB migrations.
- Oracle to open-source migration: Experience converting Oracle workloads to PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora, or other open-source databases.
- Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible for infrastructure automation.
