Job description
from Amazon careersAmazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Database Specialist Solution Architect to join the India WWSO Specialists team and help customers modernize their database estates on AWS. In this role, you will be the hands-on technical expert who works directly with customers to plan, design, and execute database migrations - moving workloads from commercial databases like Oracle and SQL Server to AWS purpose-built databases including Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon RDS.
You will engage across the full migration lifecycle: from discovery and schema assessment through proof-of-concept validation and production cutover planning. This is a deeply technical, customer-facing role for someone who thrives on solving complex database challenges and enabling customers to achieve better performance, scalability, and cost efficiency on AWS.
Key job responsibilities
Engage with customers to assess existing database environments, identify migration candidates, and recommend target AWS database services.
• Design database migration architectures using AWS DMS, Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), and native replication approaches.
• Conduct hands-on proof-of-concept engagements demonstrating performance, compatibility, and operational benefits of AWS databases.
• Provide technical guidance on schema conversion, stored procedure refactoring, and application compatibility for Oracle/SQL Server to Aurora/RDS/DynamoDB migrations.
• Develop migration runbooks, cutover plans, and rollback strategies for production database migrations.
• Support competitive technical evaluations against Oracle, SQL Server, and other cloud database offerings.
• Collaborate with Database Sales Specialists to qualify opportunities and accelerate deal closure through technical validation.
• Create and deliver technical workshops, immersion days, and enablement sessions for customers and partners.
• Contribute to the development of reusable migration tools, scripts, and best-practice documentation.
- 2+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience
- 10+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience
- Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud
- Experience working with AWS technologies from a dev/ops perspective
