Job description

from Amazon careers
We are seeking a passionate, talented, and inventive individual to join the Applied AI team and help build industry-leading technologies that customers will love. This team offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the customer experience and contribute to the design, architecture, and implementation of a new innovative product. The mission of the Applied AI team is to enable organizations within Amazon to accelerate the adoption of AI technologies across various parts of our business.

We are looking for a Sr. Software Development Manager (Sr. SDM) to lead the Tools & Integrations pillar of our AI agent platform. Your team will build the capabilities that AI agents use to interact with the world — from LLM-powered tools and traditional ML models to API integrations, authentication and authorization frameworks, and protocol-based connectors. You will define the strategy for how agents securely access internal and external services, and deliver a growing catalog of reliable, composable tools at Amazon scale.

Key job responsibilities
Software Development Managers at Amazon are owners. You will own your team, your roadmap, and the end-to-end developer and agent experience. You will drive engineering and operational excellence and build delightful products for your customers — both the agents that consume your tools and the developers who create them. You will partner with platform, security, and science teams and earn their trust through consistent delivery.

In this role you will:

* Lead a team of engineers and scientists building LLM-based tools, ML-powered capabilities, and deterministic integrations that agents invoke at runtime

* Architect secure integration patterns including authentication, authorization, and credential management for agent-to-service communication

*Design and scale a protocol layer (APIs, MCPs) that enables agents to discover, invoke, and compose tools reliably

*Deliver Tier-1 systems that support Amazon's global footprint with high availability, low latency, and graceful degradation

*Partner with applied scientists to integrate ML models into production tool pipelines

*Drive the technical roadmap from prototype to production-grade tooling that serves hundreds of thousands of agent executions

You should insist on the highest standards for quality, security, and performance. You will ensure that engineering best practices are followed and that systems are designed to be highly-available, dynamically scalable, and resilient to continuity threats.

As a technology leader, you will drive architectural and design choices and invent new capabilities. We have a team culture that encourages innovation where developers and management alike take a high level of ownership for the product vision, technical architecture, and project delivery. Successful candidates will be high-bandwidth leaders who can cut through the noise, simplify relentlessly, deliver results, and build great teams around themselves.

- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience designing and developing large scale, high-traffic applications
