from Tesla careersTesla Energy is looking for a Staff Embedded Linux Engineer and Team Lead to join the Energy Device Core Software team responsible for energy and charging system controllers. We are looking for highly motivated engineers who want to lead our embedded Linux platforms. You will join a talented group of engineers who own the core OS and system software that makes all energy and charging products work. You will lead cross functional initiatives in our connectivity, telemetry, OTA update, and remote command system software, building the best-in-class OS for energy products.
Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and deliver high quality system software for our embedded Linux OS platforms to manage connectivity, telemetry, OTA updates, etc.
- Maintain and update open-source Linux software for our platform, staying up to date with LTS kernels, buildroot versions, and various other pieces of software
- Collaborate with product software, product management, application engineering teams and design common features to support new product requirements and deliver those features on time
- Define new hardware requirements and architectures to drive new product development
- Drive new hardware bring up, reviewing schematics and porting bootloaders/kernels/system software to new hardware
- Plan and execute roadmap initiatives to meet product requirements on time with high quality, scalable software solutions
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience building, debugging, and shipping embedded Linux OS distributions
- Experience leading technical teams, mentoring engineers, and driving strategic planning
- Experienced in developing system software for connectivity, telemetry, remote command & control, and OTA software platforms
- Expert in C/C++, Go, or Rust
- Experienced in debugging hardware issues and familiarity with SOC level software development (ARM Cortex-A, x86 or others)
- Experienced with embedded communication protocols such as CAN, RS-485, Modbus and Ethernet
- Experienced with embedded Linux security fundamentals such as secure boot, PKI, and hardware key storage
- Can read and interpret PCBA / System level schematics
