- Contribute to the development of new materials and manufacturing processes that revolutionize Tesla’s products
- Evaluate trade-offs between material performance, cost, and manufacturability to support material selection
- Assist in translating qualitative design needs into quantifiable material requirements and document them in material specifications
- Develop and execute test plans to characterize application-specific material properties and translate results into design values for detailed engineering use
- Drive root cause analysis and issue resolution of material-related issues
Requirements
Degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience
Strong knowledge in physical metallurgy, mechanical behavior of materials, thermodynamics, and phase transformations
Experience with standard material testing methods and data interpretation (tensile testing, hardness testing, metallography)
Familiarity with engineering software for data analysis and visualization
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
A strong drive to go out and see the product being made and follow the material
