Job description
from Tesla careersThe Role Electromechanical Failure Analysis Engineer EMEA will be responsible for determining root cause and contributing factors and drive resolution for Tesla automotive components. This is an individual contributor role with great internal visibility, that requires extensive hands-on work, focusing on failure analysis and root cause activities for Tesla.
We are seeking a multi-faceted individual who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root causing and reporting on issues effecting systems. This includes diligently adding the information and evidence into Tesla’s root cause database, developing relationships with other functional departments to ensure parts or information are transferred to the appropriate team.
To be an effective engineer in this role, you'll need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of these electro-mechanical components, as well as the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. You'll work with other teams to find the root cause of field issues that will improve quality, reliability and durability of the products.
The team is continuously evolving and responsibilities may change over time - this role requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the team/organization.
Tesla offers the opportunity to work on industry leading products.
Responsibilities
- Drive issue resolution from root cause analysis to countermeasure implementation on electromechanical components for Tesla’s automotive components
- Investigate system assemblies, modules and components to identify root cause of failure in Tesla’s automotive products
- Perform destructive and non-destructive Root Cause Analysis on Tesla automotive products
- Conduct detailed inspections and testing of returned automotive components using specialized equipment (e.g. CMMs, tensile testing machines, microscopes)
- Perform database transactions to manage the tracking, receiving, sorting and moving of parts
- Collaborate with appropriate teams to develop and implement containment countermeasures, identify the cause of failure and resolve
- Collaborate with the team to assure data integrity, accuracy and efficiency in handling of returned parts
- Outline SOP’s (testing procedures) for testing field failure parts
- Creating Failure Analysis reports with conducted testing methods, testing results and failure data
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of 5S and MRB best practice
Requirements
- A foundation Degree in Electromechanical/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Strong demonstrable experience in Root Cause Analysis/8D problem solving.
- Understanding of material properties and common mechanical failure modes
- Strong, demonstrable hands-on experience with test equipment (i.e. power supplies, multimeter, oscilloscopes, calipers, force meter and other common equipment)
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn different failure analysis techniques
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
- Experience with hand tools, basic power tools, soldering and instrumentation, is desirable
- Ability to work independently and keep on task in an extremely fast-paced environment without direct supervision
- Must be detail orientated, reliable, have good initiative, determination and quality focused
- Ability to perform repetitive duties whilst standing
- Understanding of design and manufacturing of electromechanical process, is a plus
