As a Pre-Sales Consultant, you will partner with Sales and our customers to shape opportunities from early discovery through to proposal, ensuring each engagement is clearly scoped, deliverable, and outcome-led.
You will act as a subject matter expert across SoftwareOne’s IT Asset Management (ITAM), FinOps, and Software Sourcing services – positioning our services to help customers optimise their software and cloud spend by improving visibility, rightsizing consumption, and ensuring procurement decisions are commercially and operationally effective.
Day-to-day, the role centres on translating customer goals into a clear approach and deliverables: running discovery and shaping workshops, defining assumptions and dependencies, producing estimates and delivery approaches with the delivery team, and creating customer-ready proposals, value cases, and statements of work (SOWs) that support informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Opportunity shaping, scoping & proposals
- Lead discovery and qualification to confirm customer objectives, constraints, stakeholders, and timelines while assessing opportunity viability.
- Define scope, assumptions, dependencies, risks, and delivery approach in collaboration with Delivery teams.
- Produce customer-ready proposals, pricing inputs, SOWs, and supporting documentation with clear deliverables, timelines, and responsibilities.
Creation and maintenance of solution collaterals
- Maintain and improve reusable pre-sales assets such as discovery questions, workshop agendas, proposal templates, and standard deliverables.
- Capture lessons learned from bids and engagements to continuously improve templates and supporting materials.
- Collaborate with marketing, bid, and enablement teams to ensure collateral remains accurate and aligned to service offerings.
Sales support, positioning & insights
- Partner with Sales and Delivery to progress opportunities, support account planning, align proposals, and ensure smooth handover into delivery.
- Act as a subject matter expert across ITAM, FinOps, and software sourcing by supporting customer meetings, handling objections, and identifying cross-sell or upsell opportunities.

What we need to see from you
Understanding of IT Asset Management principles
- Deep understanding of ITAM principles including asset lifecycle management, inventory, governance, compliance, risk, and optimisation outcomes.
- Knowledge of how effective ITAM practices improve visibility, control, and operational efficiency.
- Ability to apply ITAM principles to support compliance and cost optimisation initiatives.
IT environment & integration context
- Solid understanding of IT infrastructure including hardware, operating systems, applications, networking, and cloud services.
- Understanding of integrations between ITAM/SAM and adjacent systems such as ITSM and CMDB platforms.
- Ability to interpret inventory and usage data and assess its impact on reporting, governance, and data quality.
IT asset discovery, data analysis and reporting
- Proficient with ITAM discovery and inventory tools such as ServiceNow, Xensam, Flexera, and Snow.
- Skilled in analysing asset and consumption data to identify trends and optimisation opportunities.
- Able to produce clear, actionable reporting for customers and stakeholders.
Software Licence Management
- Expertise in software licence management, including optimisation, compliance, and audit support.
- Strong understanding of licensing models such as perpetual, subscription, and concurrent licensing.
- Knowledge of licensing terms across key publishers, including Microsoft, with the ability to advise on licence optimisation.
Cloud Cost Management (FinOps)
- Strong understanding of FinOps principles including budgeting, forecasting, and cloud cost management.
- Familiarity with value metrics such as TCO, ROI, NPV, and IRR, with the ability to interpret financial data for clients.
- Experience with FinOps tools and practices including CloudHealth, Cloudability, Azure Cost Management, tagging strategies, and showback/chargeback models.
Consultative pre-sales & problem solving
- Results-oriented and structured in discovery, able to independently lead workshops and drive clear outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex customer challenges with practical, outcome-focused solutions.
- Analytical and pragmatic in working with imperfect data to identify optimisation opportunities and clarify assumptions and dependencies.
Communication & stakeholder management
- Confident communicator in an international English-speaking environment, building credibility with Procurement, IT, and Finance stakeholders.
- Skilled in presenting, facilitating workshops, and explaining complex concepts clearly.
- Able to produce structured, customer-ready proposals focused on value and business outcomes.
Commercial awareness & market insight
- Strong understanding of sales processes and ability to contribute throughout the full sales cycle.
- Proven ability to support sales teams with subject matter expertise that drives revenue growth and client acquisition.
- Strong awareness of market trends, competitor offerings, and industry developments to strengthen positioning and differentiation.
Structured delivery mindset
- Collaborative and self-directed, ensuring scope, assumptions, and quality are maintained across customer-facing proposals and SOWs.
