You will work with NXP’s Industrial Systems Innovation team on advanced motor control reasearch for Robotics used case. As motor applications become more deeply integrated into complex motion-control systems, the embedded processors controlling electric motors take on increasingly complex tasks. Our work explores how these developments impact system architectures.
You will support the team by:
- Porting next-generation control algorithms to embedded hardware.
- Connecting and integrating various sensors, data sources, and communication devices into embedded setups—covering both physical integration and firmware.
- Supporting experienced engineers in evaluating control algorithms through simulation, emulation, and hardware testing.
Your Profile
- You are an enrolled student with a focus on Electrical Engineering (or a related field), ideally in the early stages of your Master’s degree
- You have good knowledge of embedded programming and debugging on MCUs and/or MPUs. Experience with real-time embedded development (C/C++), motor-control peripherals, timers, PWM, and low-latency ISR design etc are essential.
- You have knowledge of electric machines, power electronics, and/or electric-drive modeling and control—or are motivated to learn these use cases.
- e.g. FOC for BLDC/PMSM based Servos and observer design for sensorless estimation. Understanding of GaN vs. silicon MOSFETs. Familiarity with motor drivers and current/voltage sensing.
- You are available to work onsite in our Munich lab (near U2 Moosfeld).
- You are comfortable and motivated to support the development of a full research and simulation test setup.
- You are motivated to work across electrical, mechanical, and software components as needed.
- Exposure to Python, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) environments (e.g., Speedgoat), and ROS2/Gazebo is advantageous but not essential.
- You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
What NXP offers:
- An attractive hourly wage of €18.90
- 30 vacation days per year
- Flexible working hours
- The possibility to work in a hybrid setup
- Access to an on-site cafeteria
- Networking initiatives and Employee Resource Groups such as Young Community, No Extra Planet, NXP Equal, Women in NXP, and more — fostering both professional and personal exchange
Please note:
The successful candidate may/will be responsible for security related tasks.
The assignment may/will be in scope of security certifications, therefore a conscious and reliable way of working is necessary.
