The Edge browser team is hiring a software engineer to join the agile and diverse team that works on V8, the JavaScript and WebAssembly JIT compiler and execution engine that powers Edge.

 

As a Software Engineer, you will help plan, design, develop and test software components for enhancements to V8 or new allied product components which may be used in Chromium based products. This opportunity will allow you to develop software, tools and code to be used in support of design, infrastructure and technology platforms as well as commercial or end-user applications. You will primarily use C++ along with other technologies to write code, perform testing and debug any issues with robust documentation, procedures for deployment and processes for maintenance.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

 

This role is targeting an immediate start date. 



Responsibilities
  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.
  • Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.
  • With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.
  • Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.
  • Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
  • Embodies our culture and values.


Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

 

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Reliable understanding of data structures like hash tables and binary trees, algorithms, and performance analysis.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Reliable communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to changing environments.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
