Job Overview:

 

You are a photonics engineer with experience in high-speed optical communication systems? Join us and become part of our photonics development team, belonging to the Keysight Communications Solutions Group. In this position, you will get the opportunity to work in a highly motivated team to develop best-in-class test systems for the optical telecommunications industry.  

To be successful in this challenging role, you require a good knowledge of optics/photonics and practical experience in fiber-optics. You have a solid background in high-speed optical communication systems and their components. You are a pro-active problem solver with a keen interest in measurement science who is comfortable working to tight timescales and who is able to resolve conflicting priorities and requirements with minimal supervision.  

You are expected to work onsite in Boeblingen at least 3 days a week. Full-time office presence is expected if the project phase demands it. 


Responsibilities


  • Verification and validation of performance characteristics of optical components, subsystems, and prototypes using modern measurement techniques and instruments, incl. calibration, routines, test automation and data analysis 

  • Assembly and integration of photonics prototype test & measurement instruments for optical communication systems 

  • Coordination and organization of R&D lab activities in a cross functional team 

  • Support of new-product-introduction initiatives 

  • Participation in team meetings to present and discuss work results 


Qualifications


  • BSc/BEng degree plus 3-4 years of work experience in photonics or a related discipline 

  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with optical fiber systems and optical components (especially laser diodes, photodiodes, modulators) 

  • Good understanding of electrical and optical measurement techniques (e.g. S-parameters) 

  • Basic programming skills for test automation and data analysis (e.g. MATLAB, Python)  

  • Basic knowledge of high-speed optical communication systems (e.g. IMDD, coherent) 

  • Good communication and presentation skills and an approach to solve problems analytically 

  • Ability to work in a multi-site, multi-cultural global team environment 

  • Fluent in English, spoken and written 

Desired Qualifications 

  • MSc/MEng degree plus 2-3 years of work experience in photonics or a related discipline 

  • Basic understanding of embedded SW / FW development, mechanical and electrical engineering  

  • German language skills
