JOB OVERVIEW

 

Function Overview

 

The Finance organization partners across General Mills to provide financial expertise to guide and govern the company. We bring a distinctive skill set to help the company sustainably drive strong returns on investment, whether that’s brand investments, capital investments or resource investments. The Finance function operates as a global team through the partnership of a series of enterprise-focused and business-embedded groups.

 

Purpose of the role

 

The Hedging Desk is part of the Grain Accounting team and provides specialized operational and accounting support for commodity hedging activities. This team partners with traders and merchandisers to ensure hedge transactions are accurately recorded and reflected in internal systems.

The Analyst role is the risk, control, and analytical owner of the hedging desk. It elevates hedge operations beyond transaction processing and reconciliation by introducing advanced risk monitoring, exposure analytics, control strengthening, and error-prevention ownership across UGS and TPT systems.

The Analyst role is responsible for strengthening hedge desk stability by owning risk oversight, control design, complex break resolution, exposure monitoring, and analytical support. This role exists to reduce operational errors, strengthen regulatory compliance, and protect hedge integrity by introducing deeper system expertise, structured controls, and proactive risk governance.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Market Research & Trend Analysis

1.      Evaluating market trends: Analyzing agricultural products' supply and demand trends to forecast price movements

2.      Analyzing data: Using advanced analytical softwares/systems to access real-time data and market trends

3.      Providing insights: Conveying complex data insights clearly to stakeholders

 

Operational Management

1. Risk & Control Ownership

Own hedge control framework, SOX evidence, and regulatory compliance

Design preventive and detective controls for hedge processing

Monitor Total Operating Positions, hedge exposure, and compliance breaches

Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent fixes

 

2. Advanced Hedge Analytics & Exposure Monitoring

Develop exposure, bushel valuation, and hedge effectiveness analytics

Identify trends, breaks, and control gaps impacting hedge stability

Provide analytical insight to traders, treasury, and risk stakeholders

 

3. Complex Reconciliation & Escalation Management

Own complex broker and UGS reconciliation escalations

Lead resolution of aged and systemic breaks

 

4. Desk Transformation & Automation Leadership

Lead hedge automation, SOP redesign, and control strengthening

Own UAT, enhancements, and system releases

 

Continuous Improvement

Identify, initiate, and implement process improvement ideas. Leverage Continues Improvement tools or mindset to identify recurring issues and work towards Institutional Solution.

Governance, Collaboration & Capability Building

  • Ensure clear process documentation is in place, utilized and updated in timely manner.
  • Demonstrate Subject Matter Expertise in the process.
  • Support audit and control to ensure compliance with GMI and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Develop strong relationships with business partners including other Mumbai support teams and Minneapolis headquarter teams.
  • Actively participate in team or site events/initiatives.
  • Mentor/ coach new team members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Specific Job Experience or Skills Needed

  • Minimum Degree Requirements: Full Time Graduation from an accredited university (Mandatory)
  • Minimum years of related experience required: 5+ Years.
  • Strong knowledge of derivatives, valuation methodologies, and hedge accounting.
  • Advanced reconciliation, audit, and exposure analysis capability
  • Strong system expertise (UGS, TPT, SAP, advanced Excel / Power BI)
  • Proven ability to independently manage risk-critical hedge processes
  • Advanced MS Office computer skills preferred (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
  • Speaks, reads and writes English fluently
  • Ability to work in a team environment
