Staff Engineer, Functional Safety
Analog Devices Industrial Automation Business Unit is working to enable the digital transformation within manufacturing and process control. As we move towards the digital edge ADI has ambitious plans to support our customers in areas including functional safety and cyber security.
The team has an opening for an experienced Functional Safety Engineer with strong expertise in electric motor and motion control applications, and/or robotics. This role will lead functional safety development for innovative solutions at board/module level including embedded software and integrated circuits, in industrial application such as motor control and servo drives, robotics and autonomous industrial systems.
In this role, you will be expected to help develop, implement, and deliver a consistent and scalable functional safety strategy for the specific application.
You will own and drive the creation of functional safety work products—including safety concepts and architectures, FMEDA and quantitative safety analyses, safety manuals, requirements and test strategies, as well as software test libraries and safety mechanisms.
The ability to employ systems thinking and collaborate with system architects, IC designers, software teams, and application experts to ensure end-to-end functional safety compliance is important, as is the ability to present functional safety concepts to our customers.toend functional safety compliance
While the core of the role is functional safety, our customers also need support in related areas including intrinsic safety, electrical safety, and cyber security. Existing knowledge in these areas is valuable, but training opportunities will be provided if needed.
Your Qualifications:
Minimum BS/BEng in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering; MSEE or MSCE
Experience and Skills
Experience architecting functionally safe systems for industrial automation, motion control, or robotics based on IEC 61508 or ISO 13849.
Experience with robot safety functions or concepts (e.g. Stopping function including safe torque off, Monitoring function such as safely limited speed)
Strong understanding of safety mechanisms relevant to motor control, power electronics, and servo drives.
Familiarity with IEC 62443 industrial cyber security principles.
Experience with module level or board level industrial products (motor drives, sensors).
Experience in developing and maintaining functional safety work products (preferably in a lead role).
Demostrated strong problem-solving skills with an Application- and System-level mindset
Good verbal and written English communication skills to work effectively with teams spread across the globe and work with our industrial customers in Europe, US and Asia
