from AMD careersWHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING
At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences—from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you’ll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career.
THE ROLE:
The AMD Compute and Enterprise AI Server team builds next-generation server platforms that power the data center of the future, delivering industry-leading EPYC and Instinct products with unmatched performance, quality, and reliability.
We are seeking a Lead System Engineer (LSE) to own end-to-end platform validation — driving execution from architecture alignment through post-silicon validation, debug, and customer enablement. This role carries program-level technical authority, making critical tradeoffs to ensure our products are delivered on schedule, meet functional and performance targets, and satisfy real-world deployment requirements.
THE PERSON:
You are a systems-level technical leader who thrives at the intersection of architecture, silicon, firmware, validation, and performance. You bring depth in at least one domain and the ability to rapidly build context across others.
In this role, you will drive end-to-end program execution and feature delivery in ambiguity, making informed technical decisions that balance functionality, schedule, performance, and quality. You manage technical constraints, prioritize resources, and oversee test plan execution to ensure timely, high-quality silicon delivery. You work across a global, cross-functional organization—hardware (CPU, GPU, memory, IO, systems), software (firmware, BIOS, OS), architecture, validation, and customer engineering—to align priorities and ensure successful product delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define program plans to meet product requirements within schedule and scope
- Drive platform execution with full accountability for feature readiness, program risks, and delivery outcomes
- Develop detailed validation strategy based on program complexity and feature set, ensuring coverage and scalability aligned to customer use cases
- Own end-to-end delivery of system features, from architecture intent through validation results and customer use case
- Lead cross-functional alignment across Architecture, FW/SW, Validation, and Customer Engineering
- Drive post-silicon bring-up, test planning, and execution to meet delivery of sample commitments, validation milestones, and engineering collateral
- Define platform configurations, firmware requirements, debug tools, and enablement flows required for system validation
- Drive defect prioritization to identify high-impact issues, implement mitigation plans, and drive root cause analysis and resolution
- Manage technical constraints and prioritization of program assets and engineering investments
Provide mentorship and technical guidance, fostering growth of early and mid-career engineers
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to operate across architecture, silicon, firmware, validation, and performance domains, with depth in at least one
- Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional technical programs in post-silicon or system development environments
- Strong analytical skills: ability to structure complex problems, extract insights, and drive decisions
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and making decisions with incomplete data
- Ability to influence and align stakeholders across multiple teams and disciplines without direct authority
- Clear executive communication: ability to articulate program status, risks, and tradeoffs to senior leadership
- Experience with HW/SW test tools, debug methodologies, defect tracking, and version control systems
- Solid understanding of computer architecture, silicon features, and system-level interactions
- Experience with Linux and Windows, hypervisors (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V), and system validation environments
- Track record of improving validation coverage, execution efficiency, or overall product quality
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Master’s Degree (MS) preferred
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
