THE ROLE:
We are seeking a Product Safety & Compliance Engineer to support the safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements of our products throughout the development lifecycle. This role is ideal for an engineer with hands‑on experience working in a third‑party certification or test laboratory, performing construction reviews, evaluations, and testing against recognized international safety standards. The successful candidate will work closely with product development, quality, and external test agencies to ensure products meet applicable global safety prior to market release.
This position requires strong technical judgment, a working knowledge of product safety principles, and the ability to interpret and apply regulatory standards in a fast‑paced product development environment.
THE PERSON:
You will provide technical knowledge and influence others as a subject matter expert. A successful candidate is one who can drive technical decisions independently, has accountability for accuracy, reliability and completeness of assignment results critical to the project’s success. This role allows the opportunity to influence technical decisions that have a significant impact on multiple products or the product line.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Lead and support product safety evaluations, including construction reviews, risk assessments, and compliance assessments against applicable safety standards.
- Interpret and apply safety standards such as UL/CSA/IEC 62368‑1, or other relevant safety standards applicable to electrical and electronic products.
- Partner with internal engineering teams to identify safety and compliance risks early in the design phase and recommend compliant design solutions.
- Support product certification activities, including preparation of technical documentation, critical component reviews, and resolution of non‑conformances.
Third‑Party Testing & Certification Support
- Act as the technical interface between the company, ODM or third‑party laboratories, certification bodies, and regulatory agencies.
- Review test plans, test results, and certification reports to ensure accuracy and alignment with regulatory requirements.
- Support follow‑up testing, corrective actions, and engineering changes required for compliance.
EMC & Regulatory Support (Preferred)
- Provide support for EMC compliance activities, including familiarity with FCC, ICES, and EU EMC Directive requirements.
- Assist with EMC test planning, report review, and mitigation of non‑compliances in collaboration with design teams and test labs.
Global Compliance & Market Access
- Support global compliance efforts for information technology equipment and related electronic products, including region‑specific requirements (North America, EU, and other international markets).
- Maintain awareness of evolving regulatory requirements and industry standards that may impact product compliance.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Create and maintain compliance documentation, including technical files, compliance summaries, and regulatory evidence packages.
Contribute to the development and improvement of internal compliance processes, checklists, and design guidelines.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Direct experience with UL/CSA/IEC 62368‑1 or similar hazard‑based safety standards.
- Exposure to EMC compliance, including FCC, ICES, and EU EMC Directive requirements.
- Experience supporting global regulatory compliance for information technology or electronic equipment.
- Experience working in a third‑party testing or certification laboratory performing product evaluations, construction reviews, or compliance testing.
- Practical experience interpreting and applying product safety standards (any safety standard acceptable).
- Strong understanding of product design principles, safety fundamentals, and regulatory compliance concepts.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
