Job description
from Amazon careersAmazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Database Specialist Solution Architect to join the India WWSO Specialists team and help customers modernize their database estates on AWS. In this role, you will be the hands-on technical expert who works directly with customers to plan, design, and execute database migrations - moving workloads from commercial databases like Oracle and SQL Server to AWS purpose-built databases including Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon RDS.
You will engage across the full migration lifecycle: from discovery and schema assessment through proof-of-concept validation and production cutover planning. This is a deeply technical, customer-facing role for someone who thrives on solving complex database challenges and enabling customers to achieve better performance, scalability, and cost efficiency on AWS.
Key job responsibilities
• Engage with customers to assess existing database environments, identify migration candidates, and recommend target AWS database services.
• Design database migration architectures using AWS DMS, Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), and native replication approaches.
• Conduct hands-on proof-of-concept engagements demonstrating performance, compatibility, and operational benefits of AWS databases.
• Provide technical guidance on schema conversion, stored procedure refactoring, and application compatibility for Oracle/SQL Server to Aurora/RDS/DynamoDB migrations.
• Develop migration runbooks, cutover plans, and rollback strategies for production database migrations.
• Support competitive technical evaluations against Oracle, SQL Server, and other cloud database offerings.
• Collaborate with Database Sales Specialists to qualify opportunities and accelerate deal closure through technical validation.
• Create and deliver technical workshops, immersion days, and enablement sessions for customers and partners.
• Contribute to the development of reusable migration tools, scripts, and best-practice documentation.
- 4+ years of database administration experience, or Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
- Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities, or experience in SQL Server/MySQL and experience in Oracle DB
- • Experience with at least one AWS or cloud-managed database service (Aurora, RDS, DynamoDB, or equivalent).
- • Working knowledge of database migration tools and methodologies (AWS DMS, SCT, or similar).
- • Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational database design, normalization, and indexing strategies.
- • Customer-facing experience with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
- Experience in Postgres, or experience in SQL Server/MySQL and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
- AWS Professional level certification, or 3+ years of database (eg. SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Kinesis) experience
- • Experience migrating production Oracle or SQL Server databases to Amazon Aurora or Amazon RDS.
- • Hands-on experience with Amazon DynamoDB data modeling and single-table design patterns.
- • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK) for database provisioning.
- • Experience in a pre-sales, consulting, or specialist SA role at a technology company.
- • Exposure to India Public Sector environments and compliance requirements.
