Job description
from Amazon careersSelling on Amazon is one of the fastest growing businesses at Amazon.com, with more than 50% of all items currently sold originating from third-party sellers. Our team's vision is to offer next generation systems that enable Amazon and third-party solutions providers to innovate rapidly for millions of Selling Partners worldwide, helping them automate and scale their Amazon businesses.
We are looking for a passionate engineer who thrives on building systems that make teams more effective. You will own the full engineering lifecycle — from design through deployment and operations — building production-grade systems, data pipelines, and automation frameworks that operate at scale across distributed AWS services. You will write code held to Amazon Code Bar standards, working across Java, Python, and Scala to deliver solutions where no prior playbook exists.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and build automation systems that consolidate and orchestrate actions across multiple services, including listing pipelines, search infrastructure, and data processing workflows
- Engineer CDK-based infrastructure for multi-region deployments, supporting RegionFlex initiatives
- Develop automated integration testing and set up fully automated deployment pipelines (CI/CD) to eliminate risk of service degradation
- Build and maintain data pipelines using Lambda, DynamoDB, and other AWS-native services, enabling data-driven decisions through dashboards and analytics
- Create proactive monitoring with fail-fast alerting across mission-critical jobs to ensure data quality and pipeline reliability
- Reduce operational toil through force-multiplier tooling and infrastructure automation
- Proactively identify systemic issues and engineer solutions that prevent future support volume rather than addressing symptoms
- Participate in on-call rotations, conduct root cause analysis, and contribute to Correction of Error (COE) reviews
- Collaborate closely with Software Development Engineers, contributing to design reviews and code reviews with substantive technical feedback
- Create documentation including design documents, runbooks, and operational procedures
A day in the life
You start each day reviewing operational cases/alerts and pipeline health across mission-critical services — ensuring uninterrupted customer experiences. You join daily stand-ups with SDEs to coordinate sprint work and unblock dependencies.
Most of your time is spent building: writing production-grade Java or Python to automate deployment workflows, standing up CDK infrastructure for Lambda functions and DynamoDB tables, and engineering data pipelines that power the Solution Storefronts. You own what you build — from low-level design through deployment and operations.
You collaborate with SDEs on the team who own product features, partner teams who consume your infrastructure, and leadership who rely on your automation to accelerate feature delivery. Your end customers are Amazon's Selling Partners and Solution Providers — the systems you build ensure a reliable, performant marketplace experience.
You also reduce operational toil through automation and improved runbooks, participate in on-call rotations, and contribute to root cause analyses and COE reviews.
About the team
The Selling Partner AppStore and Service Provider Network (SPAN) team is dedicated to establishing the most trusted and productive marketplace for third-party business solutions serving Amazon Sellers and Partners. Our mission centers on providing comprehensive frameworks that enable Solution Providers to efficiently manage their entire third-party solution lifecycle, from initial metadata collection through discovery and fulfillment. Through our offerings of the third-party Solution Storefronts — the Selling Partner Appstore and the Service Provider Network — we create a comprehensive ecosystem where Selling Partners can discover applications and services to enhance their Amazon selling experience. By supporting Selling Partners in optimizing their Amazon operations, we contribute to reduced costs and increased selection for Amazon's customers, thereby strengthening the overall Amazon flywheel.
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as object-oriented design, operating systems, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
- Experience with automating and simplifying team development, test, and operations processes
- Experience with distributed computing, programs and systems
