Skills
Amazon Australia's Retail team is looking for a Senior Category Manager to join us as we continue growing and setting new standards in e-commerce for Australian customers. If you're passionate about delivering results, enjoy solving complex problems, and want to make a real impact on how Australians shop, this role could be perfect for you.
This is a strategic, hands-on role requiring deep commercial acumen, full P&L ownership, and the ability to drive analysis that directly impacts business performance. A critical aspect is leading complex commercial negotiations with key vendors and strategic partners - structuring deals that drive mutual growth while balancing short-term targets with long-term partnership value. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, finance, supply chain teams, and brand partners to drive category growth. As an individual contributor, you'll deliver results through influence, mentor team members, and act as a Subject Matter Expert across the organisation.
A successful Senior Category Manager will:
- Own category outcomes end-to-end: taking full ownership of your category's P&L, setting strategic direction, driving ranging and investment decisions, and identifying operational efficiencies
- Lead complex negotiations: confidently navigating senior stakeholder relationships and structuring commercial deals that optimise terms, pricing, and promotional investment while building long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships
- Bring analytical depth and commercial rigour: diving deep in the data to uncover insights, build compelling business cases, and translate complex analysis into actionable category strategies
- Know your market: developing deep expertise in your category's competitive landscape, seasonality, and customer trends and using the knowledge to inform strategic decisions
- Be solutions-oriented at scale: proactively identifying challenges and opportunities across your portfolio, and always working backwards from the customer
- Technology & AI Adoption: Embrace AI and new technologies, diving into Amazon's tools and systems quickly and confidently
Amazon values diverse experiences and candidates with transferable skills are encouraged to apply. We are hiring across multiple business units and will match your profile to a category through the hiring process:
- Consumables (Grocery, Beauty, Household, Pet, Personal Care or Baby)
- Fashion (Luggage, Shoes, Watches or Clothing)
- Electronics (Audio, Consumer Electronics, TV or Camera)
- Home & Living (Toys, Kitchen, Sports, Lawn and Garden or Office)
- Entertainment (Physical Books, Video Games, Music, or Digital Products)
Why Amazon?
Beyond joining one of the world's most customer-centric companies, you'll enjoy a range of benefits that make Amazon a great place to work:
- Dogs at Work: our popular program proven to lower stress and boost morale, running successfully across our Australian corporate offices
- Commuter benefits, helping you save on the cost of your daily commute
- Subsidised health insurance for you and your dependents, on top of salary continuance (income protection) and life insurance
- Inclusive culture: Amazon celebrates diversity of background, experience, and thought as a key driver of innovation and our mission to be the most customer-centric company in the world
This position requires full-time in-office presence 5 days per week at our CBD location.
Key job responsibilities
- Own Category Strategy & P&L: Develop data-driven, customer-centric strategies leveraging market trends, competitive analysis, and customer insights. Take full financial ownership to meet and exceed revenue and profitability targets.
- Curate Selection & Drive Ranging: Lead assortment planning, line reviews, and item forecasting across direct and indirect supply, prioritising key brands and terms.
- Lead Supplier Negotiations: Build strong partnerships with leading brands, negotiating deals that optimise terms, pricing, promotional investment, and exclusive access to new products.
- Drive Pricing, Promotions & Demand Planning: Shape pricing strategies balancing profitability with customer value. Coordinate promotional execution with vendors and internal teams. Create demand forecasts and monitor inventory to minimise stock-out and overstock risk.
- Bring Analytical Depth: Dive deep into data to uncover insights, build business cases, and translate analysis into actionable strategies. Monitor performance and lead testing initiatives.
- Manage Day-to-Day Operations: Oversee customer feedback, price monitoring, item-level data accuracy, regulatory compliance, and technical supplier integration.
- Collaborate, Influence & Mentor: Partner with Merchandising, Operations, Procurement, Finance, and Marketing. Act as a brand ambassador externally and mentor team members internally.
- Embrace Technology & AI: Adopt new technologies and Amazon's tools quickly and confidently."
